Luxembourg City Tourist Office

As the festive season begins, Luxembourg City transforms into a magical winter wonderland, best explored through the unique guided tours offered by the Luxembourg City Tourist Office during Winterlights.

The Winterlights by Night tour showcases the city’s most stunning Christmas illuminations, offering breathtaking views and festive charm in the glow of holiday lights.

For families, the City Promenade for kids – Saint Nicholas Special combines a treasure hunt through the city with the legend of Mélusine. Children aged 6 and up will uncover hidden stories and receive a “Titchen”—a bag of sweets, as a traditional St Nicholas gift.

A visit to the Pétrusse Casemates is a must, especially during the Winterlights. These historic underground galleries, enhanced with light installations, are located near the Christmas market at the Place de la Constitution, making it easy to combine history with festive cheer.

Whether exploring dazzling lights, uncovering legends, or pairing historical wonders with holiday magic, Luxembourg City promises unforgettable Winterlights memories.

About Rollingergrund district

Up until the 1930s, the Rollingergrund district, in the far north-west of Luxembourg City, was a rural idyll.

Flower and vegetable growers had settled on the fertile land, taking their produce to the weekly markets in horse-drawn carts and handcarts.

In their heyday, there were eighteen farms and nurseries in the Rollingergrund district alone, the most famous of which those of internationally acclaimed rose-breeders Ketten and Soupert. There was also a brush factory here, as well as a large distillery, a vinegar factory and the legendary Wäschfrae vun Siwenbueren, the washerwomen of the seven springs (Septfontaines), who transported freshly washed laundry to the city every day in wheelbarrows and horse-drawn carts.
