In this world of off-the-rack and dime-a-dozen, it's refreshing to step into a small shop where expert tailors take your measurements, discuss fabrics and cuts, and know exactly what sort of jacket or dress shirt would suit you best. You may feel you've stepped back in time when you walk into Basics & Bespoke - The Chap, or that you've magically teleported to London's Seville Row, for this is the world of the British Gentleman - and now Gentlewoman - where one can find traditional, best quality garments that you could wear to Buckingham Palace, out to the country manor for the weekend, or just out in the fine city of Luxembourg. For those used to shopping online (gasp!), who may be unfamiliar with the term, 'bespoke' means made-to-measure.  For tourists, that may pose a slight difficulty, as you'll need an appointment to have your measurements taken and the resulting tailor-made garments will not be ready overnight but in 4 to 6 weeks.  But take heart, there are garments here that you can take purchase immediately and bring back home  (one doesn't speak of 'brands' here, but of 'houses') as well as shoes and accessories like Tricker's classic Oxford city shoe or Albert Thurston braces (suspenders to the Yanks). One feels more refined after paying a visit to Basics & Bespoke, and fear you not.  It's not snooty at all - they've got too good of manners for that, of course!
