Workshop

Some comedians are too wordy. Some comedians are visual thinkers. Some comedians have an arty farty party in their toolbox of talents.

If your words could do with some visuals... If your visuals could do with some framework... If you are funny and artful, painterly, crafty or drawn to the world of comics... I can't wait to share this workshop with you.

Over three hours we'll be looking at sequential art, slapstick humour in children's literature as well as how comedic characters are portrayed through select classical paintings, comics and graphic novels.

This workshop, which is aimed at anyone identifying as a feminist regardless of gender, is not just an overenthusiastic infodump from Tamar Levi.

Alongside said paintings and publications, you'll have a chance to share the kind of jokes you want to see, then brainstorm together what format might fit best.

If there's anything I can share with you from my experience as an award-winning published illustrator and children's theatre producer, I WILL.

NOTE this workshop may contain traces of: nutty stick figures and radical transparency.

Participation costs €50/person and is by advance registration. Click here to register.

What should I bring with me?

I like to remain handheld and not digital, to keep it dynamic, so please bring a sketchbook, your weapon of choice (eg markers, ink pens, pencils) and some jokes you'd like to see as paintings, memes, illustrated books or comics.

About the instructor

Tamar Levi is a comedian and artist who sells out both kinds of shows in Brussels. She's also from Alaska and wedded to a Greek, so there's a lot going on. But the paints and publications keep her from overthinking things. Just kidding. Without a cathartic sketchbook, her brain would've melted outta her nostrils long ago.

This event is organised in collaboration with Festrogen Festival, a platform that aims to inspire and support women in comedy while levelling the playing field for performers from under-represented groups.
